How does the New to GP Partnership Training Grant Funding Work?
You will probably be aware that the NHS New to GP Partnership Scheme gives a training grant to new partners to help them garner non-clinical skills but how does the New to Partnership payment scheme work. The amount that you can receive for this is £3,000 with the aim of supporting “clinicians in their personal development into a partnership role”. The £3,000 is available to all new partners in England currently whether they are full or part time.
Participants can select the training that they would like based on what their needs are – Financial management, Legalities, IT, HR and leadership are among examples of topics that NHS England suggest training could include. The training must support skills relating to the delivery of a partnership role.
The NHS will only approve training that commenced after you become a partner and the training must start within the first year of accepting a partnership role (or receiving your welcome letter if later).

If you are eligible then the NHS will pay the £3,000 but note that you (or your practice) must pay the full amount i.e. the NHS does not pay the course provider the money. Instead, the NHS will reimburse you the full amount 1 year from the date you signed the partnership agreement or one year from the date of your New to Partnership funding. This is because eligibility for the £3,000 depends on maintaining the partnership role for at least one year. So you pay the £3,000 and claim a reimbursement through NHSEI (full details for claiming reimbursement will be provided on the welcome letter you receive.)
Also, please note that your reimbursement claim must be submitted within three months of purchasing the training you have chosen.
